THURROCK NEEDS GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER AMBASSADORS!
Thurrock – situated on the Thames Gateway – is geographically and spiritually one of the UK’s most strategically important boroughs. Thurrock is in front of one side of the Gates of the City of London, our nation’s seat of government and a major centre of international commerce.
In Tilbury Fort there is a quote by one of our borough’s most famous residents, Daniel Defoe (author of Robinson Crusoe) from his journal, written in 1722: “Tilbury Fort... is the gate to the Thames... and the gate to London”. Even in the 18th century, Thurrock’s military significance in relation to the capital was well recognised.
This is why the intercessors and church leaders of Thurrock have been asked to connect with the Global Day of Prayer network and events in London.
SOUTH ESSEX REGIONAL AMBASSADORS’ GATHERING On 8 September, delegates from Thurrock, Havering and Southend gathered at Aveley Christian Centre for an evening outlining the vision of London Global Day of Prayer for a network of Regional Ambassadors and Ambassadors based in local fellowships. Kim Dopson of Transform Newham and GDOP explained how the movement is developing from being just an event into something ongoing and far reaching.
There were some extraordinary stories from across the south Essex area of the prophetic in action, and a time of powerful intercession.
NATIONAL CANOPY OF PRAYER As mentioned in previous articles, the Transformation Thurrock network is already praying for London every 30th of the month using a prayer chain style (the next one is on Tuesday 30 September). This will continue, but GDOP are asking for others to join in to create a National Canopy of Prayer, calling every church and Christian to pray for the nation.
They suggest some things already going on in Thurrock: • Nights of prayer • Setting up 24-7 Boiler Rooms and prayer rooms • Registering your church or network for a 24 hour day of prayer • Donating an hour of your day/week to pray for your community city • Join the second year of non-stop hourly intercession for London and the UK
I’M INTERSTED IN BEING A LOCAL ‘AMBASSADOR’ Being a local ‘Ambassador’ for your church or network simply involves being available to recieve and promote prayer information that comes from GDOP. You can set up prayer events or link in with existing prayer in your church or group. An ambassador’s role is to disseminate and facilitate.
You will be able to get support from your Regional ‘Ambassador’ and each second Monday of the month there will be regional gatherings at Aveley Christian Centre, along other wider events in the lead p to the Global day of Prayer on 31 May 2009.
If you’re a passionate intercessor or fellowship leader keen for the local church to rise up to its full significance, interested or sensing the ‘prod of God’ regarding this, please come to the next Regional Ambassadors’ Gathering!
NEXT GDOP REGIONAL AMBASSADORS’ GATHERING 7:30pm Monday 13 October (Note new time!) @ Aveley Christian Centre Aveley Close, off Stifford Road (just by the school and the sign for ‘Discovery Centre’)
