Latest Alpha kicks off with Eastern Feast
60 local people enjoyed a delicious free meal and good company at St. Margaret’s latest Alpha Supper in Stanford-le-Hope. The event held at local curry house, Bombay Nights, was a great success, with half of those in attendance signing up to do the Alpha Course which starts on October 1st at St. Margaret's.
Rob Groves, Community Evangelist, who organised the event, said “We love inviting people to our Alpha Suppers for a free meal; they say that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but the Christian community are working to dispel that myth! Those who attend are under no obligation to complete the Alpha Course but most do because they have such a wonderful time”
The Alpha course is a 15 session introduction to Christianity for non-churchgoers run by churches of every major denomination. It is supported by senior church leaders around the world including the Archbishop of Canterbury and many Roman Catholic Cardinals. More than 10 million people are now estimated to have completed the course, which originated in an Anglican parish in London.
