Thanksgiving Week at 217, Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope
This year the Boiler House is excited to join in with our American Transit student and celebrate a Week of Thanksgiving.
This allows us an opportunity to say thanks to our God, our community, and each other. We are so excited to celebrate this week and hope that you will be excited to join us in making this year’s Thanksgiving Week unforgettable!
Our whole heart is going into creating a fabulous week of celebration and we hope that as you read through our ideas, that your heart will be equally moved to join us in this Celebration of Thanks.
Here are the ideas for the Thanksgiving week and a rough timetable. Thanksgiving week will kick off on Monday November 24th and go until Thursday 27thNovember 2008.
Monday - We are going to take the Boiler House back to the time of Jesus when He and the disciples gathered in the upper room and broke bread together. We will center the evening around the act of the Last Supper and how Jesus taught the disciples to do this in remembrances of Him. This will start at 7pm.
Tuesday - D-Day!!!! Destination Dinner. The idea of a Destination Dinner is to have different homes host one course of the evening meal. As groups we will travel from home to home for each course. This will take everyone working together and a bit of planning. We need people willing to host part of the evening meal in their home, people willing to share their stories of thanks, and people willing to eat the meal. The idea behind this is to bring the theme of thanks into our homes as we encourage each other in Thanksgiving! This will start at the Boiler House 6pm
Wednesday - Community Cake Day! This day we are planning on opening the Boiler House to bake cakes and pray for those who serve our community. We are going to achieve this, by praying over each ingredient as we make the cakes and then we are going to deliver our prayers (i.e. our cakes) to different people in the community (like policemen, volunteers, librarians, firefighters, lollipop ladies, teachers etc.). Times to be announced.
Thursday - Family Focused Fanksgiving Day! (see what Essex has done to us!!!). Enjoy the day with your family (maybe cook a turkey, mash potatoes, gravy, jello, and fruit salad… be crazy and serve it all on the same plate…. It’s the American way!!)
This being said, this week will only happen if we have your help! Please think of the ways you could help, maybe with setting up on Monday, cake making@217, or being a host for one of the courses of the Destination Dinner, or giving ingredients for the Community Cakes, or nominating a recipient for a cake We need all the help we can get and hope that you are as eager as we are to host this Thanksgiving Week!
