Evangelical Alliance appoint new General Director
Story taken from www.premier.org.uk
Steve Clifford, who has led some of the UK Church?s biggest national campaigns takes over the role as head of one of Britain's oldest evangelical Christian organisations.
Fifty-four-year-old Mr Clifford said he's inspired by the direction the Alliance is taking and honoured to be following in the footsteps of previous General Director Joel Edwards, who held the position for 11 years.
?The gospel is a gospel, which involves wonderful words, wonderful good news, and opportunity for people to give their lives to Christ and get their lives in order. At the same time it?s an amazing challenge for us to be good news through our actions into our community.
?The kind of world we're living in today there's an amazing opportunities for us to be right at the heart of our communities being that good news.?
Mr Clifford also brought leadership to and chaired Hope 08, a national initiative which last year supported the Church across the UK in a year of mission. He also achieved recognition for this work by being commended by police, Government and royalty.
Both Prince Charles and Gordon Brown recognised the efforts of this national initiative, recently holding an event to honour their volunteers at 10 Downing St and Prince Charles hosting a celebratory event at Clarence House.
He's also been chair of the leadership team of Soul Survivor, an international youth ministry running festivals attended by over 25,000 young people in the UK alone. He's to continue being involved with this ministry, although in what capacity is yet to be decided.
His previous roles also include serving as a member of the Spring Harvest board and chair of March for Jesus International. He worked as a teacher in the 1980s before leaving to work with the Church in 1985, church planting and running leadership and discipleship teams.
He currently attends a West London church, which is a member of the Pioneer network and is married to Ann and has a son Jake and a daughter Jordan. Mr Clifford will take up his post in early April.
