Old Books for New Readers at Tilbury Seafarers' Centre!

paulcavebooksPaul Cave, one of the Chaplains working out of the Tilbury Seafarers' Centre in Tilbury Docks, is setting up a library of Christian books for visiting seamen to read or take away with them.

"This is a great opportunity to offer Seafarers good reading material and also to reach them with the gospel," says Paul. "Although we use the term 'library' we do not expect to see many of these books retruend but hope and trust that they will be well used and passed on from hand to hand."

The sort of books Paul is looking for are interesting biographies for men (not too heavy reading) and others on relevant subjects as marriage, education, dealing with depression and anxiety, etc. Children's books are also welcome as these can provide great presents.

Last weekend's visit of Adrian Plass on behalf of the Sailors' Society to Grays Baptist Church (21 March)was a great success. If you weren't able to get along and would still like to donate to the work of Sailors' Society, please go their website: www.sailors-society.org, or phone 0238 051 5950.

Mark Warner, Community Relations Co-ordinator for the Sailors' Society, is happy to come to any local church to put on a presentation called 'Sea Sunday'. Since Tilbury Docks is our local docks and a major importing/exporting port at that, and since the motto of Thurrock is 'From the Thames to all the peoples of the world', it's the very least we can do to support the Chaplains' work in reaching men from across the globe with the good news of Jesus.

Mark can be contacted on mwarner@sailors-society.org or phone 01202 830 480.
