Forts on the 2nd Thames Gateway Prayer Day
This coming Saturday 4 April sees the second in a series of events organised by the Thames Gateway Prayernet. In February intecessors from Kent and Essex combined for a madcap two-part prayer meeting at the Tilbury Seafarers' Centre and then - after a brief, shofar-blowing voyage on the Tilbury Ferry - in St George's, Gravesend. This time, the same intrepid intercessors will be amassing at Coalhouse Fort and Cliffe Fort over on the Hoo Peninsula. However, while it's one prayer meeting, it's in two places at the very same time.
The gatherings will communicate with each other via mobile phone (we hope!), and we'll experiment to see if shofars can be heard across such a wide stretch of river. We will also wave flags and banners at each other. Each group will make certain declarations over the Thames Gateway region as well as pray for the opposite bank and also for where they're standing. St Catherine's Parish Church, just next to the fort, stands on what is belived to be the place where St Cedd had some sort of monastic community back in the 650s. The old Roman road went to what was then 'Great Tilbury' and was one of the fording points along the Thames in the days of Canterbury Tales' style pilgrimages. The church was once hit by a Dutch ship's cannon fire. In more recent times, the fort has become known for its ghost hunting, halloween nights and psychic fairs. We firmly belive that the Thames Gateway Prayernet has come into being for such a time as this, when it's ever more important to be vigilant as gatekeepers of the gateway to pray about what comes in and what goes out. Meeting the Kent intercessors has joined the two sides of the gate, which in itself is incredibly significant. But after February's gathering, we were all greatly impressed upon by the Holy Spirit that something had broken in the heavenlies along the river. Not only that, there was a real sense of bonding in the Spirit, genuine friendship, and an exciting unity. If the Thames Gateway, Kent, London, Coalhouse Fort, East Tilbury and the Bata Estate (Muckingford) are on your heart to pray for, then please come along. Meet in Coalhouse Fort car park ready to take up position by the river at 10.30am. For more information please contact Tim Harrold on tim@transformationthurrock.com
