Cracking nuts at Thurrock's GDOP Prayer Room

M25 Nutcracker 12592

Latest News from Tim Harrold

Two of the 'days' of the Thurrock's Global Day of Prayer M25 Nutcracker 24-10 have now been snapped up - by prayer room hosts Aveley Christian Centre and Grays Baptist Church. Another 3 fellowships and groups considering which days they're going to take - but there's still another 5 days waiting to be block booked by other churches.

The 10 days of prayer follow the period from Ascension to Pentecost, when the remaining disciples watched and waited in the Upper Room (see Acts 1 and 2). It's a tall order, but imagine the nut that is London cracked open by the power of prayer in Jesus' name. This whole venture - which Jonathan Oloyede described as 'logistically crazy but spiritually exciting' - is simply the response in simple obedience to a simply request from God. I figure if the cracknuts of Joshua and Gideon can do it, then so can we!

This as how things stand as on Thursday 14 May:
1st Day - 6pm Wednesday 20 to 6pm Thursday 21 May
2nd Day - 6pm Thursday 21 to 6pm Friday 22 May
3rd Day - 6pm Friday 22 to 6pm Saturday 23 May - Aveley Christian Centre
4th Day - 6pm Saturday 23 May to 6pm Sunday 24 May
5th Day - 6pm Sunday 24 to 6pm Monday 25 May
6th Day - 6pm Monday 25 to 6pm Tuesday 26 May
7th Day - 6pm Tuesday 26 to Wednesday 27 May - Grays Baptist Church
8th Day - 6pm Wednesday 27 May to 6pm Thursday 28 May
9th Day - 6pm Thursday 28 to 6pm Friday 29 May
10th Day - 6pm Friday 29 to 6pm Saturday 30 May
Churches, fellowships and groups are invited to block book either a whole 24hr period of the Nutcracker, or more, or less. If you feel you can only achieve, say, a 12hr or 6hr stretch, then why not do 2x12hrs or 4x6hrs.

Individuals can also sign up to pray - we are particularly keen as always to make sure the nights are covered (the nightwatches are 12-3am and 3-6am).

WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU'D LIKE TO BOOK BY THIS WEEKEND - then we can begin filling in the smaller gaps.

Please ensure folk know they have to (a) remember their times and (b) to go to Aveley Christian Centre!

Our borough's Nutcracker prayer room will be joining with 8 others around the M25 in a massive simutaneous 240 hours of continuous prayer. The others are in:
Sidcup - in a garage!
Green Street Green Baptist Church, Orpington - the minister, John Pressdee, was the originator of the whole idea
West Horsley (A3)
The Journey, Englefield Green (facilitated by Vicky Earll, formerly one of the youth group at Grays Pentecostal Church back in the 90s)
St Paul's, Slough
Elmfield Church, Harrow
Potter's Bar & Barnet - there's talk of having a prayer room on a Routemaster parked on a roundabout!
Havering & Brentwood - in 10 different venues
... and Aveley Christian Centre, Thurrock
So that's a cool 2160 potential hours of prayer for London! There's still a few others considering joining the Nutcracker, but we're not despising the day of small beginnings - there's a real feeling that all this is a preparation for bigger and better things to follow. There's also people praying for the Nutcracker in Benfleet and Medway - both ends of the nutcracker's 'handles' of the A13 and the A2. Added to that are the many, many individuals praying through the GDOP 10-day prayer guide right across Greater London and beyond.

Let's face it, in these days of economic turmoil, the war on terror, and the drop in confidence in our Parliament, the capital city of our nation needs our prayers. As Jesus asked his disciples, will you pray for just one hour?

More info about the Nutcracker, including a prayer manual, and the GDOP 10-day prayer guide and the Prayer For The World, can be found on www.gdoplondon.com.

Thurrock's Nutcracker prayer room is open from 6pm Wednesday 20 May until 6pm Saturday 30 May and is at Aveley Christian Centre, Aveley Close (off Stifford Road, just next to the Primary School), Aveley RM15 4BU.
