Logos Hope sails by Thurrock
Operation Mobilisation's newest ship, the Logos Hope, came up the Thames, past Thurrock on its way to London, about three weeks ago. Tim Harrold and Steve Morley went up to South Quay in the heart of the Canary Wharf financial district to see the ship for themselves.
Boasting the world's 'largest floating book fair', the aim of the Logos Hope is to bring 'knowledge, help and hope' right across the world. Founded by George Verwer, this ship and its sister vessel have travelled thousands of miles over the planet's oceans, bringing prayer and mission to people groups of all different kinds.
Tim and Steve met with Sally Rickard of London City Prayernet and Amy, a young Australian of 24 who heads up the advance team. The purpose of this team is to go ahead of the Logos Hope to wherever its going next and prepare local churches and develop programmes. At one of the recent GDOP London prayer meetings in the Old Kent Road, she had announced her vision to see five bus loads of intercessors go out from the ship and drive around London for an evening - she achieved this vision, and so five busloads people were praying over the city one hot night in June! We asked Amy what her motivation is. She replied, "I just want to get to the end of my life and get the 'well done my good and faithful servant'". Wow.
Tim and Steve went on a tour of the ship, and also visited the prayer room, where the presence of God was tangible. They also met Joanne Godfrey of West Thurrock Chapel who had volunteered to serve on the ship while it was in London. She said that the experience was amazing - everyone was so nice, and all got on so well with each other. Many people serve on the Logos Hope for two years or more. Jo was working in the laundry and the galley (kitchen).
The Logos Hope sailed for Cork, Ireland, last Sunday, going back past Thurrock on the way.
