Back to school for Thurrock & Havering
Thurrock & Havering Schools Prayer Day arrangements can now be confirmed. The Transformation Thurrock and Across Havering sponsored Schools Prayer Day will be at Aveley Methodist Church in the Kennington Estate on Saturday 3 October, between 2pm and 4.30pm. This venue has been chosen for its accessibility for Haveringites and Thurrockites alike!
We are pleased to announce that leading a time of worship will be the well-known Romford-based singer-songwriter Dave Bilbrough.
This event is one of many around the country as part of the 'Pray For Schools' initiative by Care's national Schools Prayer Network. The Thurrock & Havering Schools Prayer Day will be celebrating the wide and varied influence of Christians and the Church in our local schools and colleges, as well as supporting existing work and encouraging new involvement. Thurrock has joined forces with Havering at the request of the SPN, through whom we have made contact with Wendy Jackson of St Andrew's, Hornchurch, and Suzanne Pearson of Hornchurch Methodist Church. Wendy is a Learning Support Assistant and Suzanne has a thriving puppet ministry in schools in the Havering borough (the puppets maybe making an appearance!).
We're asking Christian educationalists, Governors, support staff, LEA councillors and church-based schools workers along so we can pray with them. We're asking a number of people and agencies (e.g., Youth Inspiration Call, Streetlife, GSUS Live @ Thurrock 2012) to bring displays about their work in schools as a means of focusing prayer, and we hope that the SACRE of both boroughs will be represented.
We'll also be promoting the vision of the Schools Prayer Network to see every school, college and university in the land covered one way or another with prayer. In Thurrock there are about 10 prayer meetings taking place regularly on schools' premises, but there's a whole bunch of schools who aren't covered in prayer! All it takes are a few willing parents to make this happen. Because of the prayer group at one local secondary school, a Chaplaincy has developed, virtually unheard of in the state school sector in the whole of the UK - Thurrock has pioneered something original and maybe unique!
We hope that believers with a heart for young people - and that should be all of us - across Thurrock (and Havering) will support this event and go away envisioned, permissioned and proactive! We also would like to see Christian children and young people come along as well, because we want to hear from you, and we want to pray with you.
