Thurrock Day of Prayer this Saturday!
The long-awaited Thurrock Day of Prayer (TDOP) is almost here. It's hoped that at least 300 of Thurrock's followers of Jesus will choose to demonstrate an unprecedented degree of unity when they gather to pray at Hassenbrook School on Saturday 24 October.
Dr Jonathan Oloyede of Global Day of Prayer London and 'God's Troubadour' Godfrey Birtill will be leading the afternoon and evening sesions.
It's Transformation Thurrock's desire to see young and old, black and white, ancient and modern, man and woman, liturgical and evangelical, to come together as one in Christ, to intercede for this borough, 'a place where filthy water collects' that it may become the place where the fresh water of God flows. And who knows, Jesus may just turn the water into wine!
The day will be split into 3 sections, each with a distinctive emphasis. These are:
> 12noon to 1.30pm: Intercessors' Pre-Gathering led by Jonathan Oloyede - this is for intercessors to prepare the venue, people and atmosphere before the main event begins.
> 2.30 to 5pm: Praying for Thurrock, with Jonathan Oloyede, Rob Groves and Tim Harrold - this includes praying for the church, the community and the land. There will also be prayer with special guests representing various areas of borough life.
> 6.30pm: Worship & Word for Thurrock with Godfrey Birtill - a time of prophetic praise with the uniquely gifted Christian singer-songwriter. When Godfrey came to Grays Baptist Church back in January (as part of the 24-7 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity), he said he felt he had a word for Thurrock - so we invited him back to the borough!
This promises to be a significant day for Thurrock when the people who are called by Jesus's name - the Christians - humble themselves by praying together and seeking God's face in unison, turning away from their tendency to division, then God will hear Thurrock's believers calling out for Thurrock, and forgive them for not calling out in unity before, and so bring healing Thurrock's history and people.
Please come along to TDOP for all of the above or just part of it. But please come. The Holy Spirit is saying, 'Come, be the Bride, gather together and pray with one heart'. Because that is the Father's heart of love, for his Son's church and for the community.
