Seafarers get ample Christmas fare from Thurrock
Paul Cave, Port Chaplain working out of the Tilbury Seafarers' Centre in the docks, says a big 'thank you' to every one who donated towards their annual Christmas parcel appeal.
This year's total of parcels was a staggering 2200+. That's about 150 more than last year's total! (Let's get it 250 in 2010!)
Paul - who works for the Sailors' Society - would also like to thank everyone who helped to pack them over two days at Socketts Heath Baptist Church.
These parcels, containing toiletries, books, woolly hates and gloves, are incredibly appreciated by crew on ships often thousands of miles from home. Loneliness and lack of home comforts are something anyone would miss, but these guys are often away from their homes for months at a time. The Tilbury Seafarers' Centre offers a means for them to contact their loved ones, as well as a being a place that offers help in spiritual matters.
Paul adds, "Please pray for the seafarers receiving the boxes, especially for the little Christmas booklet we put in each one, called The Gift of God."
He adds, "And don't forget to come to our annual Tilbury Seafarers' Centre Christmas Carol Service, this year held for the first time at St John's Parish Church in Dock Road, Tilbury, starting at 2pm."
