TORCH lights up GLP breakfast
Last Friday (11 December), the monthly Grays Leaders' Prayer Breakfast was visited by John Seager of TORCH.
Torch Trust is a Christian organisation which aims to provide "Vision for those with sight loss" by introducing non-believers to Jesus and encouraging Christians with physical sight loss in their walk with Christ.
John gave a short presentation at the GLP Breeakfast, which included a DVD, and then answered questions from those who were there. After that we prayed for the torch of Torch to be lit in Thurrock.
John explained: "We seek to do accomplish our aims by providing local Fellowship Groups and a Holiday & Retreat Centre (see right, at Hurstpierpoint near Brighton). We also produce literature in giant print, as well as tapes, CDs, Braille & Moon."
Torch has been going for 50 years. There are about 130 Torch Fellowship groups in theUK & about 60 in Malawi.
In South Essex, there are Fellowship Groups in Basildon, Southend & Havering, as well as groups at Harlow and Chelmsford.
But John would really like to see a Torch group established in the Thurrock area.
John said afterwards, "It was really kind of you all to invite me to the Prayer Breakfast last Friday and to meet you all. We have a very comprehensive website - www.torchtrust.org - which should answer many of your remaining questions." If you're interested in knowing more about the work of Torch or setting up a local Torch Fellowship Group, please look at the Torch website or give John a call on 01268 522476.
John Seager is also lay pastor of Vange Mission, Bells Hill Road, Vange, which he assures us is just inside the Thurrock boundary.
INSIGHT – TORCH TRUST’s weekly programme is broadcast on Premier Radio each Sunday at 4pm. Podcasts of the programme can be heard on the Torch website.
