Global Prayer for the Global World Cup

m25We're now just one week away from the Global Day of Prayer and the week of M25 Nutcracker prayer for London and the UK. There are events happening in Thurrock throughout the week, so please make a note of them.

Next Sunday evening, on the Day of Pentecost, Transformation Thurrock is putting on a Global Day of Prayer Evening at Grays Baptist Church, starting at 6.30pm. There will be similar events taking place across the 33 boroughs of London and beyond, as well as right around the entire world. Every nation in God's creation will be marking the day somehow.

There will be a time of unplugged worship led by Gareth Marsh, and - being a prayer meeting with a global emphasis - prayer stations for each of the 32 nations appearing at the World Cup in South Africa, which begins on 11 June. Global prayer for the global World Cup! All Christian footy fanatics welcome!

There will also be opportunities to pray for all of the UK, London and Thurrock.

This event will also mark the beginning of the GDOP M25 Nutcracker week, which is facilitated through Transformation Thurrock. Out of the blue, Radio 4 has contacted Tim Harrold because they are interested in covering some of the Nutcracker's activities in their forthcoming series on London Life. This year people are thinking up many creative ways to engage in the Nutcracker:
  • a series of daily prayer gatherings - one church in Harrow are doing this for 4 hours every evening
  • 'prayer actions' in particular locations
  • a series of strategic prayer walks
  • a prayer chapel or room (full of interactive materials) dedicated to pray for London for every one of the 168 hours of the 24-7 period - this is happening in Welling
  • a prayer meeting focussing on specific themes or places each day
  • prayer drives around the M25
  • gatherings in service stations on or near the M25 - some young people from Sutton are going to be assembling at Clacket Lane services to pray
  • prayer chains by phone or via the internet
  • open spaces and/or 'treasure hunting' for praying for members of the public
  • a London emphasis in existing prayer meetings and church services
The following areas (with the M25 junctions they're closest to) are involved in this year's Nutcracker in some way or another:
  • NutcrackerRoom6Hounslow - 14/15
  • Harrow - 17/18
  • Enfield - 25
  • Havering - 28/29
  • Brentwood - 28/29
  • Thurrock - 30/31
  • Dartford - 1
  • Welling - 2
  • Sidcup - 2/3
  • Orpington - 4

Tuesday 25th - 7am to 10pm Nutcracker Prayer Day at the Stanford 24-7 Prayer Boiler Room. There are a number of themes being prayed for throughout the day as well as a Community Meal at 7pm and a time of worship at 8pm.

Saturday 29th - 2pm onwards Nutcracker Prayer Gathering at Thurrock Services. THERE IS A STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT RADIO 4 WILL BE COVERING THIS EVENT - SO PLEASE COME ALONG!
Sunday 30th - 3pm onwards Nutcracker Prayer Gathering on the bridge over the M25 between South Ockendon and Aveley (B1335 Stifford Road)

Get involved! There is a strong feeling that the recent election - which has been prayed for like no other election in recent years - has opened a window of opportunity for the "people who are called by my name" to "humble themselves, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways" so that he can "hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land". The UK still has a big part to play in Europe and the world - and it all depends on us!

LET'S GET PRAYER-CRACKING THAT TOUGH NUT OF LONDON!

DON'T FORGET TO GO TO THE THE NATIONAL PRAYER EVENT AT WEST HAM UNITED'S STADIUM AT UPTON PARK ON SUNDAY 13 JUNE! (This is organised by GDOP London. Note change of date. See the GDOP London website below for more details.)
