Flowery Festival Fun
From John Burt at Grays Baptist Church As part of it’s 125 year celebration, Grays Baptist Church (right) held a “Flower and Craft Festival” on 4/5 June to raise money for St. Luke’s and Little Havens Hospices. There were displays of flowers representing the last 125 years and other displays put together by members and friends of the church. Also displays and demonstration of hobbies and crafts were staged by other friends and members.
Local Christian Schools' Worker and Krypton Factor finalist, Malcolm Mackinnon of West Thurrock Chapel (left), showed some of his landscape paintings and pencil portraits of football stars. Malc also did on-the-spot sketches of people at the Festival.
Matt of Grays Baptist Church displayed his origami skills - the ancient Japanese art of paper folding - with a table full of flowers, animals and other objects.
Edwin Hughes, also of Grays Baptists and a Bar'N'Bus team member, had a display of his paintings. There were also displays of card making, handmade jewelry, craft-making, military model making and painting, tapestry and embroidery. Two cheques of £350.00 each were presented by Rev. Colin Baker to Peter Spreadborough of St. Luke’s and Leanne Everett of Little Havens from money raised during the first half of the year (right). A chocolate Easter egg was presented to Jayden Puddle as his balloon released at the Easter Saturday family event travelled farthest, as far as we know, reaching Southwold in Suffolk. About 100 miles! Congratulations Jayden. Further funds were raised over the course of the weekend with a grand auction of display flowers that boosted the total to over £800. So far £1500 has been raised for the hospices. Thanks to all who came and contributed.
