Create creates creatives' interest
The art exhibition held at the Stanford & Corringham Boiler Room Community House last Saturday went off extremely successfully.
Artists and visitors formed a steady stream throughout the day. A number of neighbours of the house in Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope, came along. Refreshments were provided aplenty, with plenty of cakes on offer.
The art styles on show included naturalistic, abstract, impressionistic and surrealistic paintings; and photography, photomontage, collage, assemblages, reliefs, graffiti, sculpture and film.
Organisers Lisa Anderson, Sally Harman and Transit year-out student Angelique Gerber were more than happy with the response and interest in the event. Lisa hopes this is the start of something, and is thinking of holding art classes and art days for the wider community at the house.
There is talk of possibly holding a similar event at The Old Tennis Court in the Autumn as another stepping stone on this journey.

Sally adds:
Thurrock's name actually has a root in the Saxon name for — "Where dirty water collects". The people are lovely, but the beauty and creativity can get buried. So, the Boiler Room stirred up some creative people to find the beautiful creativity in their community. Lisa Anderson was overwhelmed with the 30 plus artists enthusiasm to come together for an art exhibition @ 217. Take a look at the clip below & prepare to be inspired for the next 24-7 Create. A nice clip from the day, worth taking 5 minutes to listen to the "Lawton Lines".
