Quiz'n'Chips for new Thurrock Bar'N'Bus
St Clement's in London Road, West Thurrock, will once more host the annual Bar'N'Bus Quiz'n'Chips Night on Saturday 9 October, starting at 7.30pm.
Monies raised on the night will go towards the costs of the new Thurrock bus.
Quiz master for the night is Simon Wilson - helped by his 'beautiful assistant' Neil 'Frosty' Frost.
The bus has already been purchased using funds raised from last year's quiz and that other great annual festive occasion, the Bar'N'Bus Curry Night in February.
The current status of the Bar'N'Bus situation in Thurrock is described by Gary Jones, team leader at Grays Beach:
Old bus DEAD! It died two weeks ago with chronic gearbox failure! We have borrowed the Basildon Bus for now on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but because Basildon use it on a Thursday I think it leaves Corringham without a bus for now. The new bus is purchased and is currently undergoing a re-fit but will be about 10 weeks away. When the re-fit is complete we will have to run with the bus in the original colours as we don't have enough money to get the paint job done ( this I think would be around £1500 to do).
Stuart Christian at the Bar'N'Bus Trust adds:
Yes old bus is dead and Grays and West Thurrock are using Basildon Bus. Corringham have changed nights to a Wednesday for now and so use what we call the Rayleigh Bus. Yesterday I received the news that we have been given £2000 so will have enough money to get outside painted at some point.
