Schools Prayer Day this coming Saturday
On Saturday 2 October, two neighbouring boroughs will come together to celebrate and pray for schools and all the associated work that goes on in them.
This will take place at Aveley Methodist Church, who have kindly offered to host the event for the second year running.
This year's event is more expansive than last year's. Doors will open at 12.30pm so people can come and browse the various stands that will be there, and also participate in the Prayer Space that will be set up by Thurrock's Carla Taylor.
Between 2 to 5pm there will be specific prayer and presentations. This will start with a time of worship led by Matt Seithel and a group of young musicians.
Then there will be a session of prayer for adults working with and in schools, and then praying for young people at school. This latter section - led by two young guys called David & Dave - will include children and teenagers getting the adults to pray.
The doors will close at 6pm, giving people plenty of opportunity to continue looking at the displays and getting a taste of the Prayer Space.
Participitants and venue
Carla Taylor has been developing in Thurrock an initiative - set up by 24-7 Prayer and in collaboration with Pray For Schools - that is also sweeping through the schools of Havering. Prayer Spaces are innovative, interactive experiences for primary and secondary school pupils, specially designed to fit in with the curriculum and which point to faith in Christ without being religion-specific. Many young people have testified to having met with God through the Prayer Spaces. To find out more, come to the Schools' Prayer Day!
- Richard Powney, formerly of Viz-a-Viz, is bringing a word of encouragement.
- Matt Seithel is from Chelmsford's Christian Growth Centre.
- David & Dave - one is a schools' worker and the other an intern with Havering Scripture Union.
- The Core Group facilitating the event are: Suzanne Pearson (Hornchurch Methodist Church); Wendy Jackson (St Andrew's, Hornchurch); Tim Harrold (Transformation Thurrock); and Richard Shaw (Havering Scripture Union), who is unable to be present.
- Aveley Methodist Church sits at the centre of Thurrock and Havering (at the heart of the original 'Hundred' of Chafford) - and is part of the Methodist Circuit that is mostly in Havering. It is the only church building on the Kennington's Estate. So we are grateful to lay pastor Brian Endecott for having us again.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the day.
We would like to thank Havering Scripture Union and the Balstonia Trust for their support of this event, and Aveley Methodist Church for hosting.
Aveley Methodist Church is in Shannon Way, Aveley, Essex RM15 4QX. There is a small car park at the church; otherwise, please park in the streets around.
