Big Malc's big art exhibition

Malcolm Mackinnon has lived on and off in Thurrock all his life, and his love of oil painting has been a big part of "Big Malc's" life.

And why "Big Malc"? Well, he's tall, that's why!

Malc, who is an ordained minister with the Baptist Church, lives in Orsett with his wife Donna, a local teacher. Over the years Malc has taken many school assemblies and taken lessons, and art has PICT15022

always been a central tool to the message of Jesus, whether as illustrations to his talks, or in helping children and young people to better their creative skills.

On the West Thurrock Bar'N'Bus, Malc's done a number of sketched portraits of the young people who come on board. The kids are always amazed - and their mums and nans always grateful of an original piece of art to go over the fireplace.

than him. During his time on the show, he was able to quietly demonstrate his faith - and use words when necessary!

This is Malc's first exhibition and sale of paintings in Grays since1999.

Malc's art is on show in the Grays Library foyer this coming Saturday 18 December, between 9am and 7pm.

The oil paintings include seascapes - an example of which is below - and studies of marine and other wildlife, as well as prints of dolphins, sharks and sports portraits. His style is influenced by the Impressionists and by the German Romantic, Kaspar David Friedrich.

Malc and Donna attend West Thurrock Chapel but are moving to the San Francisco area early in the New Year where Malc is taking up a post in a church.
