Snow doesn’t dampen white spirits at oil painting display
Local artist and Christian schools’ worker Malcolm Mackinnon (left) held an extensive exhibition of his works at the weekend (16/17 December).
On Friday night Malc held a private view in the foyer of Grays Library. On Saturday, the exhibition was open all day. However, the snow did mean that not so many people were out and about - and on Saturday, the library closed in the afternoon!
Malc specialises in painting seascapes, Tolkien-esque landscapes, and nature (sharks, tigers, dolphins, eagles, bison etc.), and the odd dark knight on a big black horse on an odd dark night - harking back to a period when Malc was greatly influenced by the comic artist Frank Frazetta.
Before he went to Moorlands Bible College in the mid-90s, Malc earned his crust as a portrait artist in Newquay in Cornwall and Tenerife. He came to faith in 1985, and two years later helped his old mate Tim Harrold find salvation in Jesus while at Grays Pentecostal Church, when it was in Bridge Road.
Of the pieces on display he sold seven, which Malc felt wasn’t too bad considering the inclement weather.
One happy purchaser was Richard Earll (right) of Chafford Hundred Community Church. He bought for his wife Jane one of Malc’s striking seascapes of a mystical majestic moon brooding over the rolling waves of a pregnant swell, beach and cliffs reminiscent of something out of a Daphne du Maurier novel.
Malc still has quite a few paintings for sale, so if there’s anything you see in the photographs accompanying this article, then please give him a call on 01375 892500.
But hurry - Malc and his wife Donna leave for a new life in the USA in a few weeks!
