CSW Thurrock Action Group looks for new members

Once a month, the local action group of Christian Solidarity Worldwide meet at Salisbury Road Baptist Church in Grays.

Led by Joanne Hoare of Thurrock Christian Fellowship, the group has been going since 2002. This was after Joanne was at a 24-7 Prayer Week and heard a song called Carry The Fire at about the same time she found one of CSW's magazines in a drawer, and felt the call of God to start a local group. Since then Joanne has been carrying the fire locally on behalf of persecuted Believers around the world.

About four years ago Joanne went to Peru as a CSW delegate to visit persecuted Christians in jail and their families.

CSW logoWhat is CSW?
Christian Solidarity Worldwide is a human rights organisation which specialises in religious freedom, works on behalf of those persecuted for their Christian beliefs and promotes religious liberty for all.

As an advocacy organisation, CSW aims to influence governments and other bodies on religious freedom issues to ensure that the voice of the persecuted is heard in the international arena.

Through its various resources, events and initiatives, CSW also aims to mobilise the general public to pray, protest and provide on behalf of persecuted Christians. By doing so, CSW and its supporters stand in the gap to provide solidarity and support to those in need.

CSW's chairman is Mervyn Thomas who lived for many years in Grays, attending Grays Pentecostal Church in Bridge Road and later West Thurrock Chapel in London Road.

What happens at the CSW Thurrock Action Group?
At each monthly meeting of local CSW group, prayers are said for persecuted Christians around the world. These maybe individuals or entire people groups. They also pray for CSW staff on particular missions.

Group members write letters to MPs concerning particular instances of persecution across the globe and to ambassadors of countries where persecution occurs. They also write to those imprisoned for their faith - this shows their persecutors that they are not forgotten and encourages the persecuted during their imprisonment.

Joanne says: "Please join us for just 90 minutes a month. We would really love to have new people join us. A warm welcome is guaranteed!"
