Thurrock's Cruise Terminal celebrates 125 years
Thurrock has a dockyard - Tilbury Freeport. And next door Thurrock has an international cruise terminal - the London Cruise Terminal. And this year is its 125th anniversary.
Situated on the Thames and former home to the long-closed Tilbury Riverside railway station, the Cruise Terminal has played host to a number of community events over the years, including InTouch in July 2006. InTouch was a market place for faith-based and othe community agencies and small enterprises.
Cruise & Marine Co-ordinator at the Terminal, Lynda Viccars, told Transformation Thurrock, "We are currently collating various artefacts and memorabilia together for an Open Day which is being held at the Cruise Terminal on Sunday 17th April to commemorate the Port’s 125th anniversary".
A large model of the Waverley pleasure steamer (right) - which has been housed at the Grays Community Prayer House (aka The Old Tennis Court) for the past three years - is being donated to the exhibition. The model original came from a church in West Ham.
Lynda says, "We would be delighted to display the model at the Terminal for that event or, indeed, in the passenger lounge for passengers waiting to board cruise ships or travelling on the Balmoral or the Waverley".
If you wish to see the Waverley model or any of the other attractions, please see the flier below, and come along for a grand day out!
