Thurrock's Phil epic cycle starts this week!
Phil Lisgarten heads off to start his epic cycle ride for charity tomorrow (Monday 29 August) from John O'Groats to Lands End.
We're repeating this article from May because it's still possible to sponsor him (see link below) and he has asked that we pray for his protection over the next 12 days.

Hi everyone and many thanks for reading this press release.
I will be attempting to complete the Lands End to John O Groats cycle ride 2011 which is organised through Discovery Adventure.
I will be participating with around 40 other cyclists starting on 30 August 2011 from Lands End and cycling between 70 - 100 miles per day for 12 days finishing at John O Groats on 10 September 2011. Everyone on the ride has joined independently and are raising money for different charities.
I am a keen cyclist, and spend a lot of time cycling. I have always wanted to cycle this route and want to do it before I get any older!
Last year I saw a film from TearFund encouraging people to support their “Make Life Flow” project.
The film was about children in developing countries struggling each day to get water. Their lives were at risk and their education affected. I want to do something to raise as much money as I can to try and make a difference.
I am currently retired because of a head injury and have a very poor short term memory. This is something I can do to change someone else's life for the better. I have the love and support of all my family and many friends to fulfill this ambition, but I want to make it more than just a selfish act, which is why I want to raise as much as I can.
I am paying to take part in the event myself, so every penny raised will be donated to the “Make Life Flow” project. You can go onto the TearFund website (Campaigns. Water and sanitation) and see the film yourself, and you will probably understand why I am so moved by this project.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the “Make Life Flow” project.
Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
I am looking forward to having this challenge and I have already started to train because it does look really strenuous! I think that the hardest part will be getting organized enough for each day, as well as remembering what I am supposed to be doing all the time!
Again thanks for visiting my fundraising page and thanks in advance to all of you that help towards providing water and sanitation, giving more health, safety and the chance of an education to some of the world’s poorest people.
Please go to http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/PhilipLisgarten to see my fundraising page and sponsor me online if you feel you can.
Also, please can you pass this article on to anyone else you think might be able to be supportive.
Thank you so much
Philip Lisgarten
