RT at CRE
The Rock Thurrock project was advertised on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) stall at this year's Christian Resources Exhibition (CRE).
The annual exhibition - held at Sandown racecourse - is a shop window for hundreds of Christian organisations, churches, publishers, ministries, and suppliers. The event lasts four days is always in early May.
Last Thursday (12 May), four of the Rock Thurrock team went along to the CRE - Colin Baker, Andy Blakey, Edwin Hughes and Tim Harrold.
They bumped into many people, including:
- Ex-Thurrock schools' evangelist Steve Morley who's doing very well in his new job as Site Co-ordinator and Pastoral Assistant at Kingsley Hall Church & Community Centre in Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham
- John & Andrea Peters from Thurrock Christian Fellowship's 'Mission Shaped Community' Tilbury
- Ruth & Jim Mitchell from Grays United Reformed Church - Jim was having a cassock fitted for his duties as a Reader with the Grays Team Ministry
- Ex-Chadwell curate Jules Gadsby, who is now vicar at Bucklebury, Herts, where the new Duchess of Cambridge comes from, and who was on TV a few times at the time of her wedding to Prince William
- John Seager from Torch, a ministry to Christians with impaired vision, who spoke a couple of years ago at a Grays Leaders Prayer Breakfast and who'd like to do something else in the borough
- David Linley from More Than Gold who'd like to come to Thurrock in the autumn to do a presentation about how the local church can use the London 2012 Games as a means of mission
- Kim Dopson from Global Day of Prayer London who encouraged Thurrock to do something on this year's GDOP on Pentecost Sunday (12 June)
- Joanne Appleton from Pray For Schools who is encouraged by the annual Thurrock & Havering Schools' Prayer Day - this year on 1 October
- 24-7 Prayer's Phil Togwell who was promoting Prayer Spaces In Schools which is growing in Thurrock and Havering and elsewhere
Apparently, Rosemary Pritchard of Grays Methodist Church was there that day as well. No doubt others from Thurrock went to the CRE over the week.
But Colin, Andy, Edwin and Tim were more than pleased to find that at the BGEA stall Rock Thurrock was clearly publicised - next to another banner advertising BGEA's project for 2012, Rock The UK.
BGEA staff Anita Darashah-Borman and Ros 'Roza' Turner - good friends of Thurrock who have been to the borough now on many occasions as the project has grown and developed - were on hand to give out information and fill in survey forms.
