The annual Thurrock & Havering Schools' Prayer Day returns on Saturday 1 October at Aveley Methodist Church on the Kenningtons Estate.
This event is now established in the local calender represents a unique opportunity to link with our neighbouring borough this straddling the border of Greater London. There was a time back in history when most of Havering and half of Thurrock were known as Chafford Hundred, so our links are indeed deep!
Faciliated by Suzanne Pearson (left, at last year's eevent) of Hornchurch Methodists and on behalf of Across Havering and Tim Harrold for Transformation Thurrock, the Schools' Prayer Day is this year supported by Pray For Schools, Prayer Spaces in Schools and the Balstonia Trust.
This year's content is "leaner and meaner" from the previous two years, with the simple aim to less talk and more prayer.
Format: Four areas of prayer, practical advice and sharing to run concurrently in different parts of the building
- Prayer Space - for children & young people to pray around themes of praying for their teachers and school friends - led by Carla Taylor (below right with the Prayer Space from last year's event) of Prayer Spaces in Schools in Thurrock
- Educationalists - for teachers, governors etc. - led by teacher Chris Pearson from Havering
- Schools’ Workers - for church visitors taking assemblies and lessons, doing Prayer Spaces, Messy Church, labyrinths etc. - led by Rev John Guest of St Margaret's, Stanford-le-Hope
- Schools’ Prayer Groups - for existing groups and those wishing to set up groups - led by Joanne Appleton of Pray For Schools
These streams will be repeated to allow people to attend more than one area.
