Rachel is a daughter of missionaries, and lived in India as a child. Rachel founded the M25 Prayernet, and she and Gordon moved to live in Oxford in May 2005, where Gordon is now the Associate Minister of St Aldates. Rachel Hickson is a founding member of the UK Prophetic Roundtable along with Sharon Stone, Martin Scott, Sue Mitchell and others.
Tim Harrold first met Rachel in 2005 when she was speaker at an event in the Cliffs Pavilion in Westcliff-on-Sea. At the time, Tim was beginning to mobilise folk along the River Thames for The Turn Of The Tide "24-28" (the forerunner of the Thames Gateway Prayernet) which took place in October of that year.

Two of Heartcry for Change's core activities are:
- PRAYER – Training an army of ordinary people in Prayer Schools and seminars how to become confident to break the sound barrier and pray informed, intelligent and passionate prayers.
- PROPHETIC – Equipping the church to be an accurate prophetic voice in the nation by teaching in training schools and conferences the principles of the prophetic gift. We seek to train people who are passionate to know the presence of God, are available to hear His voice and then learn to speak His word with accuracy so that lives can be touched and changed.
