Rock Thurrock's Velocity prayers cross the M25 for 11/11/11

RT PastedGraphic-1 JPEGLast Friday night (4 November) the latest Rock Thurrock Prayer meeting took place at St Cedd's in Stifford Clays.

Core team members Colin Baker, Edwin Hughes, Tim Harrold, Andy Blakey and his wife Jan, huddled around a faint candle in the prayer room and interceded for the young people at the Velocity courses, and the young people not at the Velocity courses.

We are encouraged by those who are doing the courses and that the Stanford-le-Hope one is starting this week.

And we encouraged ourselves that - as Edwin put it - "Rock Thurrock has opened a door for God to move on the young people of Thurrock". Our combined experience of seeing simple obedience honoured by the Lord, and consequently his power to save and heal released, gives us a firm hope for the immediate and long term future.

Strategy is emerging. Aslan is on the move!

Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.
The wild animals honour me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the desert
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.
Isaiah 43:18-21 NIV

Do not think Rock Thurrock has ended. No, the events in September were just the end of the beginning. There are a lot of acorns out there that are yet to become oak saplings. There are a lot of fish out there yet to be schooled. Jesus is saying to his disciples, "Put your nets over the over side". The challenge is, are we - the church - prepared to do things God's way, or continue doing things the way we've always done them? If we are obedient, we may land 153 big fish!*

This week's Rock Thurrock Prayer is at Aveley Christian Centre (left), Friday 11 November. Starts 7.30pm.

* John 21:5-11 (The Message)
Jesus spoke to them: "Good morning! Did you catch anything for breakfast?"
They answered, "No."
He said, "Throw the net off the right side of the boat and see what happens."
They did what he said. All of a sudden there were so many fish in it, they weren't strong enough to pull it in.
Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, "It's the Master!"
When Simon Peter realized that it was the Master, he threw on some clothes, for he was stripped for work, and dove into the sea. The other disciples came in by boat for they weren't far from land, a hundred yards or so, pulling along the net full of fish. When they got out of the boat, they saw a fire laid, with fish and bread cooking on it.
Jesus said, "Bring some of the fish you've just caught." Simon Peter joined them and pulled the net to shore—153 big fish! And even with all those fish, the net didn't rip.
