Council Celebrate Thurrock

Thurrock's More Than Gold were represented at a photo shoot at Blackshots' athletics track last week as part of the Council's launch of their Celebrate Thurrock campaign.

Celebrate Thurrock 1Celebrate Thurrock is the Council's response to the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Grays on Friday 6 July, and the London 2012 Olympics.

The idea of Celebrate Thurrock is to do just that - 'big up' the borough and the many good things going on here. Thurrock is actually a great place to live, because of its geographical position, its rich history, and its growing economy, one of the few places in the UK where that is occurring.

In sub-zero temperatures under a deceptively blue sunny sky, Transformation Thurrock's Tim Harrold donned his More Than Gold tee shirt - with its distinctive logo - and was photographed with representatives from other local agencies partnering in Celebrate Thurrock.

Leader of the Council, Cllr John Kent, and the Mayor, Cllr Charlie Curtis, were also present, holding a section of bunting, six miles of which is going to be made by the school children of Thurrock to decorate the route of the Olympic Torch.

You can see the pictures and read the relevant articles in the Council's Celebrate Thurrock pull out in the Thurrock Enquirer (Thursday 9 February edition), or see the digital edition here: http://edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/launch.aspx?referral=other&refresh=7Sb01z9KG51o&PBID=0ddb1d3a-eb0a-49bf-aa25-a58be2f012aa&skip=

Included in the pull-out is a calendar of Olympic-related events across Thurrock, including the More Than Gold Holiday Club which is being hosted at four different venues in the north, south, east and west of the borough in the week leading up to the start of the London 2012 on Friday 27 July. This will be run by churches and volunteers working together in serving the borough.
