Thurrock's Olympic Torch route made public

It's official! The route of the Olympic Torch though Grays has been revealed.

You can read all the details at http://www.thurrock.gov.uk/celebrate/content.php?page=torch.

If your church is on or near to the Torch Relay Route, here is a great opportunity to engage with the local community by helping to create the party atmosphere and serve those who will lining the streets.

Why not talk to other churches near you about dong something together? An email was sent out recently in anticipation of the above.

This is a unique opportunity! More Than Gold Thurrock and Transformation Thurrock are working with the Council to help make this event and the whole Olympic/Paralymic period one to remember for all the right reasons. For more info, please do not hesitate to get in touch (details below) and keep your eyes on the Transformation Thurrock website.

Latest news...
  • Plans for the More Than Gold Thurrock Holiday Club from 23-27 July are moving apace. For more details, please contact Rob Groves (Community Evangelist in Stanford-le-Hope) or Ashley Lovett (pastor at Socketts Heath Baptist Church).
  • If your church doesn't yet have a Gold Champion, please ask for more info.
  • Some people are thinking of doing Street Parties (not only for this, but also the Diamond Jubilee) - Rob Groves is doing a training session on How To Do A Street Party at the Adult Education Centre in Richmond Road, Grays, at 7.30pm on 16 April.
  • We are looking for a venue or venues to hold a More Than Gold Sports Quiz(zes) through which money can be raised for the Thurrock Foodbank as part of More Than Gold Social Justice. If you're interested in doing this, please get in touch.
  • There was a prayer walk along the Torch Relay route two Saturdays ago - only one person turned out! So please look out for further prayer events. The next MTG Thurrock Prayer is due on Friday 31 March - if you'd like to host, please contact at the email address below.
  • If your church has bells, ring them not just for the Olympics but for Jesus at 8am on 27 July for 3 minutes! (This will be, God-incidentally, on the 70th anniversary of church bells ringing out across this land on the victory of El Alamein - THE pivotal moment in WW2 after which the Allies never lost and eventually drove out the evil of Nazism from Europe.) See http://www.allthebells.com/
  • If your church would like a More Than Gold presentation, or a presentation with a preach, again, don't hesitate to ask. So far five churches have taken advantage of this opportunity.
The Olympic Torch with it's temporary flame is coming - so let's shine the eternal beacon and the everlasting light of the hope that Jesus brings across Thurrock!
