Thurrock Art Trail 2016 - how the local church can get involved
from Rev Jokey Poyntz at st Margaret's Parish Church, Stanford-le-Hope
Some of you may have heard of the Thurrock Art Trail, or ThAT for short - this is an opportunity for local artists to exhibit in different venues across Thurrock from 9 to 24 July.
The launch of ThAT will be on Thursday 7 July at a venue yet to be confirmed. ThAT is part of the Essex Summer of Art.
How can the local church get involved? ThAT presents a huge oppotunity for believers to shine across the community...
You would not have to exhibit for the whole time if that's too ambitious - you could just offer a couple of days - but it would be a chance to bring new people in to our church buildings and grounds, which you could use as a gospel spreading opportunity.
Perhaps you have artists in your congregations or in your community who would like to join in?
Perhaps you would like to open the doors of your buildings to exhibit art works and sculptures from local artists who are looking for interesting exhibition spaces?
Perhaps offer refreshments or choose a theme or whatever comes to mind!
If you were to offer a space, you would not necessarily have to provide people to be there all the time - some of the artists themselves would be happy to be there for some of the time.
Worried about hanging things on the walls? You don't necessarily need to - many artists can access screens which paintings can be hung on.
If you think you'd be interesting in joining in, please could you let me (Jokey) know as soon as possible - preferably before the second week of February. My details are below.
Thanks and blessings,
Rev Jokey Poyntz
