EU Referendum debate in Grays, Thurrock, on 17 June

As the Referendum on membership of the European Union approaches, Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price has got together with Grays Parish Church to hold a debate between representatives of Vote Leave and Stronger In.

EU UK flag 2Leading the debate for Brexit will be James Duddridge, MP for Rochford & Southend East, and currently serving as Minister for Africa in the Foreign Office.  He will be supported by Cllr Gerard Rice, the coordinator of the Vote Leave campaign in Thurrock.
Former Thurrock MP Andrew MacKinlay will lead the debate to Remain in the European Union.  He will be supported by Kevin McNamara who is the Thurrock coordinator for the Stronger In campaign.
The debate will take place on Friday 17 June at Grays Parish Church.  Doors will open at 6.30pm for refreshments before the main debate commences and then discussion is thrown open to the floor.
Jackie said, “I am delighted that we are able to hold this debate and grateful to both James and Andrew for agreeing to take part.  Whilst many people have firm and settled views on whether we should be in or out, there are many people who, like me can see the pros and cons on either side.  This debate is for them.  Much of the discussion has been sensationalist in tone.  This debate will be a mature discussion led by two people for whom I have great respect and who will express their views with sincerity.  I am very grateful to Reverend Darren Barlow for making the church available for this event.  Decisions like this come around once in a generation and it is important that before casting their votes people have had the opportunity to have their concerns addressed.”
