FM419 – the Rock Thurrock young people’s training – took place at Grays United Reformed Church (right) last weekend. Transformation Thurrock asked two young people who attended the event to share their thoughts and impressions.
Isabelle and Kaitlyn are both 14 years old and belong to Grays Baptist Church’s youth group.
Isabelle was at FM419 both Friday and Saturday and was really pleased her friend Kaitlyn could be there on the Saturday. Both had a really good time.
TT: What was FM419?
I&K: It was an event for secondary school age and young adults wanting to know Jesus more and share their faith with their friends.
TT: What happened there?
I&K: Lots of loud music for worship by Chip Kendall and band, great talks by JT, Jess and John Cass, funny videos and a bunch of young people hanging out.
TT: What things did you learn about following Jesus that you didn’t know before?
I&K: I was reminded once again that God loves me and that following Jesus is about having a relationship and not a set of rules.
TT: What was your favourite bit of FM419 and why?
I&K: The music mainly, but the whole thing was fun (including the talks) and entertaining.
TT: In what ways do you think FM419 will make a difference to you?
I&K: I am more open to talking about Jesus to people.
TT: How do you think FM419 will help you to talk to your friends at school?
I&K: Having the training was helpful but also using the booklets means it is simpler to do.
TT: What do you think will be the best thing about the Rock Thurrock nights in two weeks’ time?
I&K: The large number of people there in in one space, enjoying the bands and hearing the good news.
TT: Would you like to say anything to young people in local churches about inviting their friends to Rock Thurrock?
I&K: ‘Do it’ – it’s fun, come on!! There is a lot of different bands for all tastes.
TT: Is there anything you’d like to say to other young people who missed FM419?
I&K: You missed out but you can still get to Rock Thurrock!
TT: What would you like to see happen in Thurrock as a result of FM419 and Rock Thurrock?
I&K: I want to see more people sharing their faith and then more people getting to know Jesus.
16 young people responded to the Gospel of Jesus at FM419 for which we give God the glory.
