Thurrock’s Intercessors’ Network – Gatekeepers of the Gateway – began ‘by accident’ in January 2006 a the culminating event of two weeks of 24-7 prayer linking in with the annual international Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Some 50 of the borough’s intercessors from a variety of denominational backgrounds gathered at St Margaret’s Parish Church in Stanford-le-Hope for an evening of prayer and the prophetic. From this grew a monthly gathering, meeting in various locations around the Thurrock. Since September 2007, the Gatekeepers have tended to meet at The Old Tennis Court in Grays. The Gatekeepers are also linked by an informal round robin email. This contains prayer requests for the borough and individuals, as well as projects and events that require prayer focus. There is also an emphasis on discerning God’s spiritual strategy for the borough, based on the principals learned from the ‘Baal Perazim’ story in 2 Samuel 5. The name Gatekeepers of the Gateway comes from the fact of Thurrock’s strategic position on the River Thames with respect to London and Europe.
