Thurrock-based Gemma Prescott has won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Gemma won the medal – her first at the Paralympics – in the women’s F31/32/51 Club at the Olympic Stadium. She got threw to the final after coming third in the first round. Her throw of 20.50m was enough to give her bronze.
“It was an amazing experience,” said Gemma, who came seventh and eighth-place finishes in Beijing in 2008.
Gemma is reported as saying, “I knew I had to go out there and personal best to win a medal and I’m delighted. I’m actually really struggling for words. Having three British girls in that event just made the crowd even louder. I’ve never been in an event like that before with such support.”
The results of Gemma’s event can be seen below.
On Thursday evening Gemma will be going for a second medal when she competes in the shot putt event.
