As a step towards preparing for the huge outreach opportunity that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games offer to our borough, Transformation Thurrock can announce that there will be a More Than Gold day on Thursday 10 November.
Both David Linley (London Director) and Matt Oliver of MTG will be making presentations that aim to equip churches and groups of churches working together in local communities ahead of next year’s once-in-a-lifetime events, taking place across the Thames Gateway region and elsewhere in the UK.
There will be two events on the 10th – a lunchtime presentation and an evening road show.
The lunchtime event is aimed at leaders and church representatives who are available in the daytime. The evening event – called On Your Marks – is open to anyone with an interest in the wide variety of creative opportunities that London 2012 presents, or those who are unable to make the lunch.
These creative opportunities range from sport-related outreach to Olympic-based quizzes, street parties, community celebrations, live big screen coverage and so on.
Transformation Thurrock is beginning to look at the possibility of facilitating a Borough Sports Day and Community Festival – watch this space!
>>> VENUES REQUIRED FOR THESE TWO EVENTS!
- Preferably at different places in the borough to allow for greater inclusion.
- If you’d like to host the lunchtime event, will you also be able to provide food or at be happy for food to be prepared and eaten on site? (We could do this on a ‘bring and share’ basis.)
- Please contact Tim Harrold on tim@transformationthurrock or 07 929 878 089 about this.
STOP PRESS (29.8.11) – the MTG lunchtime event will take place at Corringham Safety Centre, 43 Fobbing Road, Corringham, Essex SS17 9BN, 11.30am-2pm.
