Stand by Me is an Essex based Christian charity, who have been rescuing and caring for kids around the world for 20 years.

Grace SBMAt Stand by Me we believe that anyone can reach across the world and enable one more child to have a chance at a great life. There are many ways you can get involved, from prayer and team trips to child sponsorship and fundraising, we believe each of us can change everything for one more child.

Stand by Me started life in a shed over 20 years ago following one man’s mission trip to Lebanon. We are now working in 7 countries and have seen the work blessed and multiplied as we are led by God to the most vulnerable kids that need rescuing, today having rescued over 10,000 children from extreme poverty. We provide the care, love and attention the kids need to thrive and want them to know and experience Jesus and his love for them. Grace is one of our children.

Grace’s story

‘Grace (right) was handed to us in a bundle of rags by a policewoman. But her name wasn’t Grace then, in fact, she didn’t have a name at all.

At three weeks old she had been abandoned by the roadside. No one wanted her and she was going to be put back where she was found to die.

But we couldn’t let that happen. So we welcomed her into our children’s home with a loving family in our Bekoji Children’s Village in Ethiopia and named her Grace.

Today Grace is chatty, funny and a little bit bossy. Grace is loved, cared for, full of life and has a reason for hope’.

Our experience has taught us that when the children have our lasting support, they can rise above their circumstances, reach their full potential and go on to do great things. When the children are ready to leave our care, they often choose to stay in their home town, using their skills and talents to transform their communities. By providing the right support, we are proudly bringing up the next generation of builders, nurses, plumbers, church leaders, doctors, engineers, farmers, business owners and teachers in some of the poorest areas in Ethiopia, Nepal, Burma and other countries.
