Running for children unable to walk
On 26 March and 26 May 2015 I will run two separate 20.3 mile routes covering all 53 schools.
The purpose of the run is two-fold:
- To raise funds as I’m running the London Marathon as part of the Whizz-kidz Team. Whizz-kidz is a charity that sets disabled children free to reach their true potential and live their lives to the full by providing mobility equipment to give them the chance to be independent.
- To raise awareness of Thurrock Council’s Healthy Weight Management Programme which aims to encourage children, young people and their families / carers to increase their physical activity.
Although I will run across all Thurrock Schools the initiative is open to everyone. All that is required is to:
- Run, walk or ride between at least two Thurrock Schools (provided they are not in the same building) or all 53 schools for the adventurous!
- Then get sponsorship for your distance; for example, 50p per school covered.
Donate directly onto my Justgiving page located at https://www.justgiving.com/Temi-Fawehinmi/ or download a sponsor form from the Whizz-Kidz website at http://www.whiz-kidz.org.uk/support-us/fundraising-zone/start-your-fundraising com
Alternatively, if you’re not interested in a ‘School Run’, take a walk around the block!

PRESS RELEASE
Local woman runs for Whizz-Kidz
Temi Fawehinmi of Chafford Hundred, Grays, Essex will undertake Thurrock’s Longest School Run on 26 March 2015 and 26 May 2015 to raise funds for national disabled children’s charity, Whizz-Kidz. Temi will be raising money by running two routes that run through areas in close proximity to all 53 schools in Thurrock. The schools will be split into two groups; West Thurrock will be covered on 26 March and East Thurrock on 26 May. Temi began running about 18 months ago (See her story on her Justgiving site). Now 4 stone lighter and with a 26.2 mile marathon under her belt she hopes her journey from Fat to Forest Gump will inspire others to become more active. Hence, an inclusive run, walk or ride activity for all.
Temi aims to meet her target amount of £2,000, which will help to provide vital mobility equipment and life skills for disabled children across the UK. To date she has raised over £1000.00!
The purpose of the run is two-fold:
To raise funds by running the London Marathon as part of the Whizz-Kidz Team. Whizz-Kidz is a charity that sets disabled children free to reach their true potential and live their lives to the full by providing mobility equipment to give them the chance to be independent.

Although Temi will run the routes the initiative is open to everyone. To take part all you have to do is run, walk or ride between at least two Thurrock Schools (provided they are not in the same building/site!) or all 53 schools for the adventurous! Then get sponsorship for your distance; for instance, 50p per school covered. The collection period starts on the day of the run (26 March or 26 May) and ends 14 days later A downloadable sponsorship form is currently available via the Whizz-Kidz website. Alternatively, donations can be placed directly onto Temi’s Justgiving site (details below). A map of the schools will be available on Temi’s Justgiving site as from 23 March 2015.
The money raised from this event will go towards transforming disabled children’s lives – literally overnight. Whizz-Kidz provides disabled children and young people with vital mobility equipment, opportunities to meet and have fun, and training to help them gain skills and look forward to a bright future.
Ideally Temi would like to raise so much more than her minimum target of £2,000, as one mobilised wheelchair costs £5,000 and there are currently over one hundred children on a waiting list for a mobilised wheelchair.
Head of Events at Whizz-Kidz, Gurvinder Gregson, said ‘Our calendar of challenge events is incredibly important to Whizz-Kidz as they raise over £1.7m for the charity thanks to everyone who gets involved.’
We are very grateful that so many people are using their personal challenge to give disabled children across the UK the chance of a childhood and an independent future.’
If you would like to sponsor Temi please donate at http://https://www.justgiving.com/Temi-Fawehinmi/. You can also donate to the fundraising page using JustTextGiving. Just text BLES77 to 70070 followed by the amount you wish to donate e.g. to donate £5, text BLES77 £5 to 70070.
