There was a stall with a difference in Grays High Street on Saturday morning. It was the ‘Market Chapel’, manned by members of eight churches from the Grays area.
Anglicans, Baptists, Pentecostals and Christians from other denominations joined together to wish shoppers a very Happy Easter and hand out some three hundred Goody Bags which contained sweets, local churches’ information and literature about the true meaning of Easter. Volunteers helped from 8am until 1.30pm. Colin Baker, pastor of Grays Baptist Church, had no doubt about the success of the Market Chapel. “It’s all down to a few local church leaders being willing to sit down decide to work together – it’s really inspired us to do more in the future.” Pete Howe, leader at Thurrock Christian Fellowship at Grays, added, “It’s been a really great day and we’ve been able to talk to loads of people about what this time of year is really all about. And the rain held off – that’s an answer to prayer!” |
