Many local people in church leadership will remember with affection the Thurrock Leaders Lunches of old. These took place in various locations around the borough and the lunch bit was done on a ‘bring and share’ basis.

PICT1400It was after a Thurrock Leaders Lunch in early 2003 that some ‘disgruntled’ leaders from Grays came up with the idea of the Grays Leaders Prayer. They were disgruntled at the fact that the leaders in the east of the borough were already meeting weekly to pray! They were probably more challenged and indignant than disgruntled, truth be told – and the GLP continues to this day.

It was at a Thurrock Leaders Lunch in the summer of 2004 that the vision for Bar’N’Bus was first presented and approved by those who were there. In March 2005 the first of Thurrock’s Bar’N’Bus teams arrived at Blackshots – and stayed just short of three years.

The Thurrock Leaders Lunch waned about four years ago, although there have been attempts at resurrecting it since then. Most recently, there was a Thurrock Leaders Lunch at the RCCG Fruitful Land church which now meets in the old Anchor pub in Tilbury on 16 September 2010.

PICT17854But now the Friends of Transformation Thurrock – the support group for Transformation Thurrock – have urged for a slight change of emphasis and a fresh start.

The concept is for regular Thurrock Leaders Network Days to take place four times a year.

The first of these is to be held on Thursday 10 February at a neutral venue, Corringham Safety Centre (the old Fire Station). The event will begin at 10am and end at 2pm.

The Thurrock Leaders Network Day is an opportunity to worship together, pray with each other, hear from God and grow in friendship with one another, strengthening our relationships and unity to the glory of Christ.

As with the old Leaders Lunches, everyone is asked to bring and share something for lunch (i.e., buy some fruit, or savouries, or bread, or spreads, or puddings, or cakes, etc.).

The programme will look (very roughly) like this:

  • 10am coffeePICT17832
  • 10.30am worship
  • 11am introduction
  • 11.15am split into groups to share and pray
  • 12.30pm worship
  • 12.45pm lunch and networking
  • 2pm close

We hope this excites you and that you’ll be able to attend – whatever your denomination, whatever your style, whatever your cultural background. And remember…

How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!
DSC00629It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

(Psalm 133)

We’re all in this together! So let’s be a model of union and love to the church of Thurrock. For more info, please contact Transformation Thurrock on 07 929 878 089.
